fine art neo-impressionist painter - acrylic and oil colour
The New Zealand artist, Lance O'Gorman has been painting for close on 50 years and his
landscapes and seascapes feature in many public and private art collections, both
nationally and internationally. He trained at the Auckland Institute of Fine Art and
Commercial Art. His love of Peter McIntyre and of his environment shines through his
paintings. "As an artist, much of my work is to explore pigments, surfaces, brushstroke
and colour, and then apply this knowledge, in a variety of styles, to our surroundings.
Although basically an impressionist, my aim is to apply both modern and traditional
concepts in the painting to enhance atmosphere and feeling."
Lance enjoys sharing his talent with other artists, formally and informally, and he has
been a guest at many art schools and art societies throughout the country. His work has
featured in three publications, 'Northland - a Portrait', 'The Art of Lance O'Gorman' and
most recently, 'Auckland, City of Sails'.
Of his oil paintings in an exhibition at RONA GALLERY, he said that they are "…a
statement of my impressions of images, both seen and imagined, and then constructed in
styles that best stimulate an emotional response."
Lance believes his art is an expression of his own optimistic and positive view of
life, and thinks that artists need to develop their own individual style. |
