History of Rona GalleryRichard Ponder’s passion for art and his fame as an artist made him the perfect person to take over Rona Gallery in 1999. It had been a sleepy little seaside gallery in Eastbourne, but Richard was determined to revitalize it with some of the best artists in New Zealand. Artists like his friend, Darcy Nicholas, distinguished NZ Maori artist and currently the general manager of Pataka Museum and his brother Mike Ponder, famous for his minimalist iconic farming images as featured on drizabone and his wine labels. In 2007 the gallery moved over the road to larger premises at 151 Muritai Road. The gallery still shows some of NZ’s most outstanding artists Ken Hunt, Richard Ponder, Mike Ponder, Jack Register, Renee Hunt and Cherrie Knott. Richard welcomes you to come and see the artworks from these outstanding artists. Recently we have begun to stock high quality art supplies for students of art, as well as some of our artists’ favourite products.
