Showcasing the art of leading New Zealand Artists,

Rona Gallery has an unparalleled reputation for outstanding New Zealand Art.

From Mike Ponder's iconic representations of the rural heartland, to Ken Hunt's realism and attention to detail, Richard Ponder carefully selects his artists focussing on technique, attention to detail, and composition.  We're interested in both style and substance, because a painting should be treasured.  Richard says, "the mark of great art is that the more you see it, the more you like it."

History of Rona Gallery

Richard Ponder’s passion for art and his fame as an artist made him the perfect person to take over Rona Gallery in 1999. It had been a sleepy little seaside gallery in Eastbourne, but Richard was determined to revitalize it with some of the best artists in New Zealand. Artists like his friend, Darcy Nicholas, distinguished NZ Maori artist and currently the general manager of Pataka Museum and his brother Mike Ponder, famous for his minimalist iconic farming images as featured on drizabone and his wine labels.

In 2007 the gallery moved over the road to larger premises at 151 Muritai Road. The gallery still shows some of NZ’s most outstanding artists Ken Hunt, Richard Ponder, Mike Ponder, Jack Register, Renee Hunt and Cherrie Knott. Richard welcomes you to come and see the artworks from these outstanding artists.

Recently we have begun to stock high quality art supplies for students of art, as well as some of our artists’ favourite products.
