Cherie Knott

cherieKnottHoop_1.jpgCherie has exhibited around the world; her subject matter is diverse, ranging from whimsical works to powerful statements about the environment and people.

Cherie Knott was born in Portland, Western Australia on the 20th of April 1971. Early in her childhood Cherie was eagerly painting, scripting plays and writing poems as a way to explore her world.

When Cherie was seventeen she was drawn to classical dancing as a career. She believed that this artform would enable her to obtain complete body and soul self expression. Having lost time, due to a childhood illness, she was not encouraged in her goal of becoming a world class performer. Despite discouragement, Cherie continued to spend her days in dance practice, and her nights painting and writing prose.

Cherie’s unique expressive talents were noticed, then nurtured, by one of the college dance teachers, Diana DeVos. It was Diana DeVos’s belief and mentorship that gave Cherie a chance of a career in dramatic dance. After gaining recognition locally for her unique expressive talent in choreography, Diana DeVos and Cherie flew to Monte Caro to attend the “Academie de Classique Princess Grace”, where, shortly after arrival, Cherie permanently damaged her knee.

Not being able to dance again, Cherie diverted her energy with relentless focus, into painting, choreography and writing prose. It is this diverse experience in the arts, and uncompromising commitment to attain complete self expression that delivers the rich artworks and prose which the world and community can enjoy.
