New Zealand artist Jack Register has a masterly use of watercolour, making each painting look fresh and exciting. People often look in awe at his paintings and ask how he achieves such remarkable effects. He replies,

"Oh, I just seal off my paper, and paint on the spot."

Jack's father, Basil Register, was born in Eastbourne, and paints in an impressionist style in both watercolours and pastels.
