Racheal's style has changed dramatically in the past decade. In the early nineties, portraits and figure studies dominated her work. Recently this has given way to more conceptual and abstract pieces.

My paintings generally have a story to tell, maybe a phrase that someone has said to me, or even an interesting mathematical formula. This, combined with the thrill of experimentation, means my paintings are seldom just imagery.

Worked in oils, Rachael's paintings have a confident, contemporary edge to them. Often on a black primed canvas, they subtly draw the viewer in, revealing details over time. This intelligence guarantees paintings that will outlive fad or fashion.

Upcoming works deal with how people's interpretations of life (events, history and art) often erode the underlying truth. Racheal is demonstrating this in a series of paintings to be shown in August 2001 at R. & J. Ponders' RONA GALLERY. Entitled "Chinese Whispers", this has to be a "must see".
