About the Artist
A serious accident on a Harley Davidson motorcycle forced him to close his existing business to concentrate solely on painting. He honed my painting skills with help from several artists, namely A.M.E. Bale Prize Winner Chris Browne, and Paul Hunt. He started painting full-time in 1991, concentrating initially on portraiture and branching out into the old masters - originally to understand traditional painting techniques- but later in response to public demand. Ken's commissioned portraits range from army officers to cabinet ministers to children, but his work has also included film and TV work, the most significant being four paintings for the Lord of the Rings/ Fellowship of the Ring.
TECHNIQUE
All artwork is done with artist-quality oils on canvas or fine linen. All work is done in my large purpose built studio attached to the rear of my house. Portraits start with a photography session to establish lighting and pose options. Once a pose has been decided on I start on the painting and complete it using a combination of live sittings and photography. The entire process takes approximately one month. Copies take about the same time.
